Southern Exposure inaugurates our new Mission Street storefront space with the first of monthly receptions launching SoEx Off-Site. SoEx Off-Site is a year-long of public art projects investigating diverse strategies for exploring and mapping public space.

At the opening, join Rebar and Snap Out of It for an introduction to COMMONspace, an exploration of San Francisco’s privately owned public open spaces (POPOS). Using POPOS as a laboratory for understanding the nature of the modern commons, COMMONspace remixes behaviors, situations and spaces. The artists will describe their approach to creating “paraformances”—actions that explore each site’s implicit social codes and engage accidental audiences.
