Final Event and Year End Celebration
May 20, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
*Open to teachers and students of Downtown High School
Location: Downtown High School, Room 10

Starting in Fall 2008, Downtown High School students met every Wednesday after school for a year to learn about the art of silk screening, printing and design through personal symbolism. Led by Southern Exposure’s teaching artist Erik Parra, assisted by artist Ivan Lopez, students engaged in critical discussions about social movements, iconic symbols, design and color theory while gaining skills in Photoshop.

The class will culminate this year with an exciting presentation of student work and student-led silk screen demonstrations. Students who participated in the class throughout the year will share their new silk screening skills with their fellow students and teachers. Print Shop! students will be demonstrating how to print using their own designs, made especially for the final class. Participating Downtown High students get to take home their own handmade shirts.
Refreshments and snacks will be served!
