Writer and critic Maria Porgers will discuss the role of the artist over the last twenty years as portrayed in works of fiction in a book talk, “Skin Deep: Images of Artists in the Art World in the 80s and 90s.” Examining the fashionable art life and the realities of studio practice, Porges will base her discussion on Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood, Beauty by Michael D’Amato, and Slaves of New York by Tana Janovitz.
