Allison Shields
Re creation
January 5 - February 3, 2001
Opening Reception: Friday, January 5, 2001, 6:00 – 8:00pm
With the title, Re creation, Shields has purposely set up a double meaning for this show. Depending on how it is read Re creation may refer to either an enjoyable pastime or a reproduction. The work revolves around ideas of growing up, nostalgia for the past, lies, and the evolution/meaning of being an artist. Among other pieces, this exhibition includes exact copies of drawings originally done in high school, one month’s worth of attempts at drawing a self-portrait without looking in a mirror and a locked diary of all the lies the artist has told.
