Pokorny’s familiar, yet symbolically revamped forms combine discarded pieces of furniture and other domestic materials. These compelling, vaguely figurative forms allude to the hidden reality behind the socialization of women into the domestic sphere. Pokorny uses a visual language to make direct references to the common cultural upbringing shared by those who, like her, have grown up since the 60’s. Pokorny states, “I feel that there was a huge disparity between what we were sold and what was reality. There is even more of a gap between what was sold to women.”
