Mission Lake Perimeter Bike Race and "Lakeside" BBQ

Ledia Carroll

Mission Lake Perimeter Bike Race and "Lakeside" BBQ

Times: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM – Registration
2:00 PM – Race begins
Location: Mission Park and Playground (Valencia Street between 19th and 20th Streets)

On October 22, 2006, Ledia Carroll will use a field line chalker to recreate the full perimeter of Lago Dolores, a former freshwater lake as part of her Mission Lake Project. This shoreline stretched from what is now South Van Ness to Guerrero and 15th to 20th Streets. Drawing the line in reference to maps from the 1800s, Carroll's chalk line allows the still visible ancient depression of the lake to become apparent to the eye.

In conjunction with the re-created lake shoreline, Ledia Carroll presents a "lakeside" barbeque and perimeter bike race. This half-day event takes place on Sunday, October 22, 2006 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. From 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM registration for the race will take place at the Mission Park. The bike race begins at 2:00 PM and will trace the shoreline of the lake. There will be five race checkpoints at historically significant sites. Each checkpoint has a stamp necessary to complete the ride. The finish line at Mission Park will include prizes, music, and a festive BBQ. Various prizes will be awarded based on style at the checkpoint activities and best lake related costume. There will also be a secondary prize for a speed trial. The race concludes at the Mission Park and Playground with a free "Lakeside" BBQ. Food sponsored by Southern Exposure and Coffee donated by Ritual. Music provided by DJs Big Daddy and Ranessa. Live bluegrass by the Funyons. Lake related fun and games. Bring a blanket, it's a picnic.
