Desde Abajo Subimos: From the Bottom We Rise

On December 12, SoEx’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) presents the screening of Centipeace, a YAB-produced video, alongside a photo and prop installation inspired by the video’s set. Centipeace delves into the mind of youth who re-imagine themselves and their friends as a life-size Centipede video game. Negative stereotypes become written into the body of the centipede, and are destroyed and transformed into more positive and self-affirming words and images. Centipeace is a work that promotes a dialogue around the harmful effects of stereotypes that relate to teenagers and the transformative power that comes from self-definition. The opening celebration will take place in Southern Exposure's back gallery and classroom.
