JEANNE GERRITY

Jeanne Gerrity is the Associate Director at Southern Exposure. After receiving her BA from Brown University, she lived in the Bay Area for two years, before heading back east to pursue her MA at Columbia University. In 2005, she started working in the recently established Swing Space Department at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, overseeing visual and performing arts projects in temporarily vacant spaces. In 2007, she became the Programs Manager at Smack Mellon, a non-profit visual arts organization and gallery in Brooklyn. Throughout her six years in New York, Jeanne served as a juror on several panel reviews, including the Brooklyn Arts Council Re-Grant Program and the Lower East Side Print Shop Keyholder Residency. She has also spoken on panels at venues such as the Center for Book Arts in New York and Louisiana ArtWorks in New Orleans.

In addition to working as an arts administrator, Jeanne is an independent curator and writer. She has organized exhibitions of emerging artists at various non-profit spaces around New York, including Artists Space, Rotunda Gallery, and the ISE Foundation, and has written for publications such as Art Papers, Rhizome, and Art Practical. In the summer of 2010 she participated in the Gwangju International Curator Course in South Korea. She is excited to be living in San Francisco because of its tight-knit arts community and its proximity to otters.
