SUZANNE HUSKY

Suzanne Husky's oldest and most recent memory is of eating tomatoes gleaned from the garden. Through her work she attempts to process and reflect humor from her environment through multiple forms and medias and has most recently been collecting urban, environmentally friendly ideas that can be transported to the European urban garden. From a mixed-media practice that reflected on the landscape and environmental issues, Husky proceeds to study and practice horticulture.

Eco Heroes is a series of photographs, drawings and texts that glorify the dedication of people who have the common sense to disobey the suburban aesthetic for locavorism, human footprint reduction, seed saving, honey making, canning goods, compost, humanure, graywater etc. Through this project Husky emphasizes the aesthetics of simplicity. The Eco Heroes reuse, recycle, transform and escape consumerism by all means. They are the America that will never be depicted by mass media, as they are not potential consumers. They are the ever mocked by Hollywood hippies and the inconceivably happy without shopping citizen. The blog is bilingual as a way to introduce that non-conformist, activist America to my French Culture.
Husky received her MFA from the Ècole des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux and has shown extensively in the Bay Area and France since 2000.
