MABEL NEGRETE

Mabel Negrete-Alfaro, was born in Valparíso, Chile, and raised in the Bay Area since 1988. She has been an active multidisciplinary artist in San Francisco since 1996 and in the past two years, she has completed several installations, public and community art projects that deal with body identity, radical politics, environmental ecology, and education. She is currently a 2006 BFA candidate at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is also founder and co-director of the artist organization Hypersea where she is developing the second year of the Public Informative Art Project an in-school art program at Luther Burbank Middle School in San Francisco. Recently, she has been awarded a grant by the Zellerbach family foundation and the W. A. Gerbode Foundation to continue her “Living Walls Mural Project” for the year 2006.
