Marcela Flórez is a Colombian visual artist who now lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having earned a Bachelors degree in fine arts from Universidad de Los Andes, in Bogotá, Colombia, Marcela has primarily utilized printmaking, drawing, and photography to explore personal memories from everyday experiences in her native city while reflecting on urban iconography and social issues. Her recent works have focused on the complex social dynamics of the San Francisco Bay Area’s diverse culture and society. Marcela has also been a passionate art educator for children and teenagers for more than 6 years in Colombia, working largely with populations confronting difficult social conditions, as well as writing booklets for children about museum art collections in Bogotá, and developing workshops for high-school teachers on art education. She is currently a Lead Artist for Southern Exposure’s 2006 Mission Summer Voices program.
