Daniel Nevers begins his month-long residency at Southern Exposure this week. Using typical construction materials in unusual ways (i.e. orange extension cords), Nevers examines the idea that do-it-yourself is the new self-help. In his first week, Never's begins to build the framework for his large-scale installation. Stop by the gallery during open hours for a look into his artistic process.

Over the course of his residency, Nevers and a crew of fellow artists will build a series of barriers, boundaries and other obstacles that will provoke viewers to reconsider how they see everyday objects.

*Residency Update:
In his third week at Southern Exposure, resident artist Daniel Nevers, continues to build on his site specific installation, Laughing on the Inside. With weekly shopping trips to Home Depot, Nevers has constructed precarious yet elegant barriers using red steel wheelbarrows, wooden step ladders, orange extension cords, and red rubber plungers. Through the use of these ubiquitous materials, Nevers examines the idea that do-it-yourself is the new self help.

Heavily informed by pop psychology and O, The Oprah Magazine, Nevers' work explores cultural notions of authenticity. Viewers are encouraged to visit with the artist during open hours to share stories about their own efforts at living their best life.
