Shot in the dark, this work is the product of allowing chance to take over a moment. As set up in the studio, I consciously create an environment where both models and artist are kept in the dark, literally and figratively. An improper film choice, off-kilter lighting: all these decisions lend themselves to chaos, which is of course the main point of creation.

This is from a larger series of works on paper exploring the contradictions apparent in the function-oriented built environment and the natural environment that is often idealized within contemporary culture. The specificity and purposefulness of the built environment and use of cartography as a means to make sense of the undefined (threatening) forces of nature is a recuring theme in my work.
