a part of FREE ENTERPRISE, Southern Exposure's summer residency program
July 24, 2007 - August 4, 2007
Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 12 noon – 6pm
Michael Swaine produces A Plea for Tenderness, a new business where he creates and sell shirts. A Plea for Tenderness explores the senseless brutality behind war and military culture.
During his residency at Southern Exposure, Michael fabricates a new line of shirts bearing the phrase “A Plea for Tenderness” sewn in Braille. Three different styles of this shirt will be produced and will be available for purchase at the gallery from Thursday, August 2 through Saturday, August 4. Shirts will also be available at MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing) in Hayes Valley.
In addition to producing and launching a new line of shirts, Michael produces a video in which people act out their own death. Please stop by the gallery during Michael’s residency to act in this video or to learn more about the project.
