June 29, 2007 - 6:00 PM
Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure grant program application deadline was Friday, June 29, 2007 at 6:00 pm. Grantees will be announced on the SoEx website on Friday, August 17, 2007.
Southern Exposure’s new grant program Alternative Exposure, offers up to $3,000 grants to individuals and unincorporated groups in San Francisco and Alameda Counties working in the visual arts.
Alternative Exposure aims to support vibrant artistic activity on the ground level. Artists often form communities, work together, and show and support each other’s work. These activities generate a current of creative energy that has a critical impact in the wider art community. Alternative Exposure was created to provide direct support to these below-the radar types of activities. Southern Exposure’s Alternative Exposure facilitates monetary awards to artists or groups of artists making and presenting work in this committed but informal way. It will provide support to the work of unincorporated groups, burgeoning art and gathering spaces, publications, collectives, events, and artists making work in unexpected ways. It seeks to facilitate the public presentation of new work. The resulting project activities must be accessible and presented to the public. This new program responds to the value that inclusion of the artist voice in developing creative activities is critical for the health of the arts community.
All application materials are downloadable from the Artist Resources page of this website, where you may download a PDF application and complete instructions.
Generous support for Alternative Exposure is provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts with additional support from the Gant Company.
