PART-TIME  ART INSTRUCTOR

Southern Exposure seeks an ART INSTUCTOR to conduct an after-school arts workshop with a group of high school students from the Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco (BGCSF). "Location: " is a series of workshops that engage and interact with site-specific locations in the Mission District of San Francisco and explores the Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club as a site for creating art that responds to the culture of the club and the surrounding neighborhood. Over nine weeks the ART INSTUCTOR will work with students from the Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club to create a silk screening studio that focuses on developing young artists' understanding of screen printing and develop printing skills. Topics to explore include t-shirt design, poster campaigns, logo design, site-specific projects, and issues reflecting the students and the neighborhood.

Qualifications
  • Teaching experience, particularly with urban youth
  • Expertise in silk screen production, airbrush, graphic design
  • Experience in art curriculum design
  • Hands on experience with installations and de-installation of projects and exhibitions
  • Experience developing socially relevant projects
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the AIE Program Manager to design an after-school arts workshop and curriculum for high school students that takes place at the Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club, 450 Guerrero St.
  • Assist with the gathering of resources and materials for project
  • Help coordinate a process for participants to complete projects for public presentation
  • Bring in relevant guest speakers and coordinate field trips for youth
  • Inform BGC Staff and AIE Program Manager about the progress, achievements, and challenges of the participants
  • Help evaluate students experiences and program
  • Ability to commit to attending all workshops, meetings, and ability to meet deadlines

Curriculum
If hired, artist is required to write an eight-week curriculum including lesson goals, skills learned, class activities, materials needed, themes explored, field trips, and final project goals.

Start Date: Orientation at Columbia Park October 3, 2007
End Date: Wednesday, December 12, 2007
Time Commitment: Two, two-hour workshops each week from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, prep time, planning meetings, and periodic meetings with AIE Program Manager and/or BGC staff members
Compensation: $30 per hour of class time, planning and evaluation meetings, plus materials and final project stipend.
