Southern Exposure is proud to collaborate with the Columbia Park Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, and the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House, and pleased to be working with lead artists - photographer Shashari Murphy, performance and installation artist Joshua Short, and local visual artist and educator, Lena Wolff. With their guidance, and the support of a fabulous network of interns, collaborators, and youth leaders, youth participants come together to make the Southern Exposure gallery their site for artistic development and creative expression.
Mission Voices Summer youth, lead artists, and interns created The Living City Lab to explore the inner relationship between culture and nature in the city. Southern Exposure’s gallery became a laboratory for making art using the environment as the subject of observation and materials for artwork. The Living City Lab was a growing project that evolved in each workshop and continued to grow throughout the exhibition. Participants collected and re-used found objects, utilized photography, drawing, building, printmaking, and sculpture to create a collaborative exhibition that reflected the complex realities of an urban environment.
